The 2002 vintage opens with expressive tertiary aromas of dried sour cherries, fig jam, and dried plums, gracefully interwoven with dark chocolate, pipe tobacco, leather, forest floor, and warm baking spices. On the palate, it exhibits legendary finesse and balance, supported by softened, fine-grained tannins and a bright, persistent vein of acidity that lifts the weight of the dried fruit. It finishes dry, extraordinarily long, and savory, leaving lingering notes of cocoa, crushed herbs, and sweet oak spice.
